NKVD soldiers' uniform before 1943

The uniforms of junior commanders and privates of the military service of the NKVD troops differed from those of the commanders in the quality of the material, the execution of the elements, and some details. It included:
  • a tunic (shirt) of a khaki colour, similar in design to that of the command staff, but of a lighter shade (winter - cloth, summer - cotton), with blackened buttons and without piping, with buttonholes on the turn-down collar, the sleeves on the elbow folds are additionally reinforced with cloth overlays. The gymnast was worn exclusively with a belt with a single-toothed galvanized frame buckle and breeches in boots. On cloth or cotton breeches, the knee bends were reinforced with additional stitched fabric pads;
  • bloomers (breeches) - summer (cotton) khaki and winter (cloth) dark blue;
  • a summer cap and a winter helmet similar in design and colors to command staff samples but made of coarser and cheaper fabric;
  • cap (including for wearing with a steel helmet) cotton khaki, without piping; in areas with a hot climate, instead of a cap, by Order of the NKVD of December 27, 1935, a cotton panama (subtropical helmet) of a protective color was installed for all personnel, in front - a cloth star of maroon or green color;
  • single-breasted overcoat, coarse cloth, without buttons on the side. In cold weather, when intervening on guard, it was allowed to wear a sheepskin coat over the overcoat instead of an overcoat - a sheepskin coat or bekesha. The buttonholes on the overcoat are similar to the tunic ones.
  • Equipment and boots are similar to those adopted in the Red Army.
